Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson has been honoured by the Millennium Excellence Foundation for his immense contribution to Ghana and beyond.

At a short ceremony in Accra, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said the award is a fitting tribute for his outstanding contribution to the Christian Religion, Ghana and humanity, rising from a humble beginning to a revered figure globally.

Ordained into the Holy Priesthood in 1975, Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson has served in several capacities. These include the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Cape Coast, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, served as the Chairman of the National Peace Council and named by the Vatican as a Member of the Pontifical Commission for Catholic-Methodist Dialogue.

Vice President Bawumia said Cardinal Appiah Turkson has demonstrated impressive traits of selflessness and has shared to others what he has learnt by being, “a teacher, alongside his religious responsibilities’’.

Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson expressed gratitude to the Millennium Excellence Foundation for honouring him. He used the Ghana Coat of Arms to send a message stressing the need for freedom and justice.

For the last 20 years, the Millennium Excellence Foundation has recognised and celebrated successful enterprises in Africa. It also holds the Millennium Excellence Awards to honour institutions and individuals who have excelled in endeavours of national development.
