Police begin investigations into death of 3 mine workers at Old Apinamang in E/R

The Eastern Regional Police Command has confirmed the death of 3 persons in a gold pit close to Old Apinamang Cemetery in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region.

In an interview, Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, said investigations have begun into the incident. He revealed that the victims are 2 males and 1female aged between 25 and 41.

DSP Tetteh said when the police arrived at the scene, the 3 bodies were covered with leaves. The victims were part of workers mining for gold in the pit before it caved in. The bodies have been deposited at the Saint Dominic Hospital at Akwatia for autopsy and preservation.

“Police in Akwatia are investigating the case of unnatural death involving the 3. They were mining in a pit and it collapsed on them, killing them instantly”.

Preliminary investigations reveal those who want to go into mining must do so responsibly, these are the hazards of illegal mining for those who want to go into it’’, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh stated.
