Several people are feared trapped after a 25 storey building under construction collapsed in Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos.
Images from the scene show crowds gathering close to a huge pile of rubble with the police struggling to cordon off the area. Some workers at the site said their colleagues have been trapped in the rubble.
Local authorities have put in place an emergency response plan to deal with the situation. The city has seen several building collapses in recent years.
The cause of the collapse remains unclear.
Some residents have joined the rescue operations and have criticized the authorities for not responding quickly.
Head of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said it is unclear if there are fatalities, but pictures show rescue workers carrying a body away from the scene.
