Parliament summons Transport Minister over accidents

Members of Parliament have expressed worry over the increasing spate of road accidents throughout the country.
Over the weekend, a number of people lost their lives while others, including MP for Awutu Senya and Deputy Minister of Communication, George Andah sustained various degrees of injury.
The MPs want the Minister of Roads and Highways to appear before the House to apprise members on steps being taken to curb road accidents.
The MPs were contributing to a statement made by the Member for Ledzokuku, Dr. Okoe Boye.
At the end of the contributions, the Speaker directed that the Minister of Roads and Highways appear before the House to brief members on recent reports of road accidents and actions being taken curb it.
Meanwhile, a Road Safety and Transportation Expert, Dr. Godfred Akyea Darkwah says most of the fatalities or carnage on the roads are man-made and the people in this country have chosen it to be so.
Speeding and drunk driving are the major causes of accidents on the roads and if motorists will change their attitude and obey road safety regulations, the roads will be safe.
He said bad roads form a minute part of the problem.
