Government insists that it has not abandoned the E-blocks started by the Mahama-led Administration. It says more than 60 E-blocks have been completed and are in use across the country.
Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who disclosed this at a media briefing in Accra, said another four of the E-blocks have been completed and will be in use this year.
Dr. Adutwum indicated that E-blocks located on the outskirts of major towns are being equipped with boarding facilities to accommodate more students who travel from far.
The issue of the abandoned E-blocks has always generated controversy as the previous administration continues to accuse the government of leaving the projects to rot. But the Sector Minister insists that is not the case.
Slow E-Blocks completion
Dr. Adutwum explained that 200 E-blocks were to be built, and out of the number, 124 were started with funds made available for just 23 from the World Bank.
”However, due to budgetary constraints, completion has been slow.”
He expressed the President’s resolve to complete the rest as soon as possible.
