The joyous moment in Senegal was beyond description. Many took to the streets in wild jubilation, while others adopted other forms of celebration. There were tears of joy as Mane said, ”the people have waited on for this”.
A national holiday has been declared today as part of the celebrations. This is how the BBC reported events in the country’s Capital, Dakar.
”Senegal has just won their first ever AFCON Trophy and the people on the ground are absolutely not opposing. I was in one of the fan zones and it was really interesting to see because until Sadio Mane’s penalty, people were still anxious and still feeling they could actually lose. I spoke to a couple of people who told me they didn’t believe it”.
