“Ghana’s Coach CK Akonnor is a good friend but, I reckon for our sake he isn’t the man to lead Ghana to or in Qatar”. This was a tweet by Sports Journalist Gary Al Smith last year.
Explaining why he made such a statement on the ”Saving Our Passion” program on GTV Sports+, Gary said “it was a difficult thing to write” adding that he (CK Akonnor) is one of the men he believed in so much to succeed.
Comparing Kwesi Appiah to CK, Mr. Smith said Kwesi had the chance to be an Assistant Coach to many Head Coaches before he became a Head Coach. He however said CK Akonnor never had that luxury of time to do all that.
”If CK had done well it would have been a straight endorsement to all local Coaches”, according to Gary Al Smith.
