Ghana’s decision to condemn Russia and its action to invade Ukraine and her subsequent vote of YES during the UN Security Council crucial meeting on Friday that consolidated the UN’s stance against Russia as the aggressor in the war between the two countries, led to varied opinions by panelists on our Current Affairs Programme Focus.
Ghana’s Representative to the UN Security Council Harold Adlai Agyeman conveyed the country’s position to the UN security council last week in an address that also stated that Ghana stands by the territorial integrity and sovereignty with Ukraine while condemning Russia. Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security Palgrave Boakye-Dunquah explained why government decided to condemn Russia.
International Relations Expert Dr Rashid Pelpuo disagreed.
According to him, condemning Russia means Ghana has taken sides. He says such an action is wrong because Russia may begin to view Ghana as an enemy. Security Expert Dr Prosper Nii Nortey Addo agreed with Dr. Rashid Pelpuo but asked that the condemnations should be made on some conditions.
