Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cuts sod for construction of Tamale-Yendi and Yendi-Zabzugu-Tatale Road

Government has cut the sod for the of the Tamale-Yendi and Yendi-Zabzugu-Tatale Road.

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cut the sod for the 168.2 km-World Bank funded project which forms part of the government’s efforts under the Transport Sector Improvement Project, to open up the country for socio-economic growth.

The project has been divided into two lots, comprising the 106.2km Tamale-Yendi road as well as the 61.98km Yendi-Tatale.

The World Bank is funding the project at the cost of $150million and is expected to be completed in August 2024.

Addressing the Chiefs and People of the region at Zang, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced that, more than one thousand Kilometers of roads will be rehabilitated across the country over the next two years.

“The Transport Sector Improvement Project has been developed to support the development of road infrastructure, improve road safety and strengthen the capacity of the sector agencies”.

The Vice President expressed the government’s commitment towards addressing the challenges faced by commuters across the country.

“The overarching objective of government is to reduce travel time on selected parts of the road network in Northern Ghana through the introduction of performance-based contracts, promote road safety, and strengthen the institutional management of the transport sector”.

The Ya Na in a message commended government for the initiative, saying it will help reduce poverty in the region.
