The knockout stage of the 2022 Total Energies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations commences today Wednesday, July 13, 2022 in Morocco.
Eight teams including host Morocco, defending champions Nigeria, 2018 AWCON finalists South Africa, 2018 semi-finalists Cameroon, 2020 Tokyo Olympics participants Zambia, WAFU A Women’s Champion Senegal, Tunisia and debutants Botswana to battle for the automatic 2023 Australia- New Zealand Women’s World Cup tickets.
The Atlas Lionesses who had a perfect round of matches in the group stage have been paired with Botswana who only managed one victory in the 3 matches. The Atlas Lionesses seem to have their work cut out for them with the quality they present in captain Chebbak and their UEFA Women’s Champions League winning coach.
Nigeria has another crucial encounter with Cameroon. It will be battle of Rashedat Ajibade trying to find space while Cameron’s trio Genevive Ngo Mbeleck, Micheala Abam and Ajara Nchout fast pace and awesome foot works against a not too strong Nigerian defense.
In other matches, Zambia takes on Senegal while South Africa battles Tunisia.
The 2022 Total Energies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is live on GTV Sports and anchored by Akosua Adjei.
