The Ho Municipal Assembly has presented items and business start-up capital packages to 70 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to enhance their livelihoods.

This is in fulfilment of the government’s new policy on the efficient utilisation of the three percent disability component of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

The items worth ¢120,000 include deep freezers, sewing machines, a printing machine, bags of rice, wheelchairs, and a laptop.

The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Divine Bosson, who distributed the items, reaffirmed government’s commitment to empower PWDs and make them self-sufficient to cater for themselves and their dependents.

He stated that the Assembly will continue to identify such individuals in order to provide them with start-up capital packages that will allow them to fend for themselves. He charged the Disability Common Fund management Committee to monitor the beneficiaries to ensure that the items are put to good use.

“This will not be the last group of people who will benefit from this kind of support. We will continue to identify these people and give this kind of support to them so that they can also live a meaningful life,” he said.

Mr. Bosson urged PWDs to look beyond their condition and venture into economic activities to improve their lot.

“Yes, you are physically challenged. There are people out there walking strong going up and down. There’s something in you that’s not in those people. Look at that inner you, that man in you, that woman in you, and bring the best out of yourself. Don’t see yourself as a disabled person,” he said.

The Chairperson of the Disability Common Fund Management Committee, Alex Korsi Asor Akpo, advised the beneficiaries to justify the investment of the government by putting the items to judicious use.
