Former President John Dramani Mahama says the Black Stars of Ghana played very well in their opening match against Portugal despite losing 3-2.

The Black Stars put up a spirited performance against Portugal but couldn’t secure any points as they were narrowly edged by their counterparts in a pulsating encounter played at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar.

Speaking to the media after a public viewing event at his office in Cantonments, President Mahama said the players made Ghana proud with their performance and urged them to go all out in the remaining matches.

“Our boys did very well. They acquitted themselves, and we are proud of them. Let’s continue to support the Black Stars because we still have two matches to go, and I am sure that we will make an impact,” he said.

He added that this was a team for the future and now because they are very talented and could steer Ghana football to greatness.

“This Black Stars is for now and the future. Let’s give them all our support, and I am sure they would go far. I have seen some new players who play some fantastic football and so we have the potential,” he added.

President Mahama also pleaded for space for the head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, because he believes he is a good coach and can blend the team very well.
