A bitter defeat was what the National Sports Authority boss, Prof. Peter Twumasi, suffered on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, in the NPP primaries in his charge to become a member of parliament for Ahafo Ano South West constituency.

Prof. Peter Twumasi was handed a heavy blow as he came in last in a four-man race for the ultimate. He was able to accumulate 7 votes, which drew out how badly the delegates didn’t want him.

Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, who emerged as the overall winner, accumulated 357 votes. This figure proved how handicapped the election turned out to be. The outcome dims Prof. Peter Twumasi’s chances of presenting his constituency in parliament next year.

Twumasi’s performance with the National Sports Authority has been questionable considering some decisions his administration has made so far, which have gradually affected the state of our national stadiums, especially the Accra Sports Stadium.

Although all odds were stacked against him, Prof. Peter Twumasi was very optimistic about his chances of winning the primary election, as he emphasised his track record and dedication to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as granting him a chance of winning.
