Residents and consumers of electricity in the Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region are to stage a massive demonstration against the Electricity Company of Ghana over what they call an astronomical billing system introduced by the company in recent times.

The demonstration dubbed “Miekukuge” is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 29th May 2024, from Aflao Victoria Park to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) office at Denu.

The demonstrators will converge at Aflao Victoria Park from 8 am and embark on a peaceful demonstration through the principal streets of Aflao and Denu, as agreed upon, to finally hand over their grievances in a form of petition to the authorities.

A statement issued by the organizers said, “one of the reasons for our demonstration is the outrageous, unthinkable, unfathomable, unimaginable, “murderous,” and insensitive electricity bills/tariffs that are being imposed on the good people of Ketu South”.

They believe strongly that with massive participation their voices shall even go far and be heard by the National office of the ECG.

The organizers through social media platforms have been mobilizing aggrieved customers of ECG for some time now, and the number is growing day by day.

Ketu South is significantly populous and it’s noted to draw huge number for any outdoor event.
