The articulated truck driver’s assistant, who has been identified only as Kofi explained that they parked on Friday evening after the vehicle developed a fault on the highway.
He said they placed a triangle behind the truck to warn oncoming vehicles of danger ahead and they contracted a mechanic to fix the fault but was unable to do so, and assured them the fault would be fixed the following day.
He said he was on the spot directing traffic throughout the night until he decided to take a rest when the traffic had slowed down.
However he was later alerted that an accident had occurred.
When he rushed to the scene, he saw the mangled Opel Astra which had crashed into the back of the truck.
One of the two occupants of the Opel was pronounced dead at the nearby KNUST Hospital while the other who was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) was also pronounced dead on arrival.
