The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement denying reports of a shooting incident at the Kumasi office of the Electoral Commission, emphasizing that no demonstrators were injured by police.
However, some protesters who breached the agreed-upon arrangement by forcing their way into the EC compound were restrained.
The police are urging the media to exercise caution and accuracy in their reporting to prevent the spread of misinformation.
This call comes amid reports of chaos erupting in Kumasi during the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration, where police deployed teargas to disperse NDC supporters who clashed with law enforcement.
According to eyewitnesses, one protester sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital, while some protesters attempted to attack a police officer who sought refuge in a nearby house. Another officer was also injured after being assaulted by protesters.
It’s worth noting that the police service has taken measures to address misconduct within its ranks, including interdicting three officers for unprofessional behavior during the Limited Voter Registration Exercise
