Wesley Girls’ Senior High School has been taken to court over claims that it denies Muslim students the right to practice their religion.
The lawsuit was filed by Shafic Osman, a Ghanaian citizen, who alleged that the school prevents Muslim students from observing their religious practices.
Mr. Osman argued that the school’s policies go against Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion. He is asking the court to declare the school’s policies unconstitutional and inconsistent with the rights of students.
The plaintiff also wants the Ghana Education Service (GES) to introduce clear guidelines to ensure religious rights are respected in all public schools across the country.
This case highlights ongoing discussions about balancing religious freedom and school policies in Ghana’s educational system.
