Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called upon the newly appointed Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams to take a vigilant approach in monitoring the selections for the national football team, the Black Stars. The traditional leader emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in player selection, expressing concerns that nepotism may be undermining the team’s performance and integrity.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II highlighted the troubling decline of the Black Stars in recent years, attributing much of this downturn to the undue influence of individuals within the Ghana Football Association (GFA). He noted that these influences have led to the prioritization of personal interests over the national interest, which he believes has contributed to the team’s failures on the international stage.
During his remarks, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II expressed his frustration, stating, “The Black Stars have been disgraceful these days. You have to get the Black Stars on the winning track.” He issued a direct challenge to Minister Kofi Adams, urging him to ensure that only deserving players are called up to represent Ghana, thereby restoring the team’s competitive edge.
The Black Stars have faced significant challenges, including failing to advance beyond the group stage in their last three competitions and missing out on qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This lack of success has raised alarms among football fans and stakeholders, who are eager for a turnaround in the team’s fortunes as they prepare for future competitions.
