In an exclusive interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show with Maltiti Sayida Sadick on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, questioned the accuracy of Ghana’s political history as it is currently taught.

Addressing what he described as historical inaccuracies, Dr. Murtala Muhammed dismissed the widely referenced concept of the “Big Six,” asserting that “there was nothing like the Big Six.”

According to him, certain individuals who were later associated with the group were not originally part of the historical events that led to Ghana’s independence. He argued that the official narrative has been misleading, particularly regarding the 1948 riots and the subsequent arrests.

“The interrogations and statements after the 1948 riots are facts. They clearly indicated that those accused were not responsible, yet Kwame Nkrumah, who was not even in Accra at the time, was arrested,” he stated.

The minister emphasized the need for an honest approach to history, urging Ghanaians to critically examine the nation’s past rather than accept traditional narratives at face value.

“It is important for us to understand history and appreciate how far we have come. We must respect knowledge, research, and those who have contributed intellectually. But when it comes to the political history of this country, there has been enormous waste,” he said.

One Response

  1. Tell the history, write the history.
Somebody wrote what we have been reading as the big 6 so tell and write the big 3 or 7 or big 10 or the big 15 then overtime you would have right the wrong.
You are a trained teacher but you have refused to teach and has switched to be a law maker and now you are a minister.
