Work on the Tema-Aflao road has resumed after being on hold for 15 months. The construction company, BHM International Construction (UK) Ltd, returned to the site on Monday, April 7, 2025.

‎According to graphic online, the project, which costs $105 million, is being paid for with a loan from the United Kingdom. It was paused in December 2022 when the government temporarily stopped repaying some of its debts during a financial restructuring process.

‎BHM Ghana’s Country Director, Mr. Adrian Wilson, said they decided to resume work after the government gave strong promises that funds would be available. He added that even though restarting the work is a risk, they believe in the government’s commitment and support from the UK.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, had earlier encouraged contractors to return, assuring them that funding would be made available soon.

‎The company’s Client Relations Manager, Mr. Wisdom Adonu, confirmed that they are back on site and asked the government to release the funds quickly to allow for smooth work.

‎The project covers 17 kilometres of road, stretching from the Tema Roundabout to Central University at Miotso. It will have a three-lane dual carriageway, service roads, and four interchanges at Kpone Barrier, Savannah, Afienya, and Prampram. Other features include modern drainage, pedestrian bridges, and high-mast street lighting.

‎Construction Manager Eric Tetteh said the team had completed about 30% of the work before the suspension. He added that they now have 18 months to complete the rest, including roadworks, culverts, and four major bridges.
