Lawyer and human rights advocate, Gloria Ofori-Boadu, has asked Ghanaians to remain calm and avoid rushing to judge the current petition to remove the Chief Justice.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Monday, April 21, 2025, she urged citizens to respect Ghana’s democratic system and follow due process.
Mrs. Ofori-Boadu explained that Ghana is not just following a constitutional system, but a constitutional liberal democracy. This means the country not only follows the rule of law but also protects the rights and freedoms of its people.
“We are jumping the gun,” she said. “Ghana now practices a system that focuses on human rights — the right to speak, the right to be heard, and the freedom to assemble. These are all protected by our Constitution.”
She stressed the importance of respecting these freedoms and warned that taking action without a proper legal process could harm the country’s democracy.
Her comments come at a time when discussions about the Chief Justice’s position have become a heated topic. Mrs. Ofori-Boadu encouraged all sides to respect the law and avoid any action that could damage Ghana’s legal system.
She concluded by saying that all freedoms Ghanaians enjoy today should not be taken for granted, and must be protected through proper democratic channels.
