C/R Lands Commission breaks ground for office complex as national mapping project begins

The Deputy Executive Secretary for the Lands Commission, Jones Ofori Buadu, has hinted of the Commission’s move to provide an updated comprehensive mapping for the entire country. 

According to Mr. Ofori Buadu, proper planning of the development of a country depends on it spatial data and updated comprehensive mapping, hence the move. 

Announcing this at the ground breaking ceremony of the Central Regional Lands Commission Office Complex in Cape Coast, he noted that since 1974 , the country has not had updated mapping of it lands. 

Aside the decision to map up the entire country and provide updated mapping to ensure development, the commission is also embarking on digitalization of its records. 

It has also began putting up permanent offices for the various regions to ensure effective and efficient operation of their staff and reduce cost of renting, starting with four regions. 

The ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the Central Region office in Cape Coast took place over the weekend. 

The office complex is expected to be completed in 18 to 24 months.

At the historic event are the officials from the commission’s headquarters, the president of the central Regional House of Chiefs, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu and the Omanhene of Oguaa, Osabarima Dr. Kwesi Atta the second who is also a counsel of state member. 

The Regional Lands Officer, Seth Owusu, was excited about the development, saying it will ensure effective and efficient working environment.

The Deputy Executive Secretary, Jones Ofori Buadu, noted that, the play significant role  for the Commission in terms of revenue generation and practice. 

He was of the believe that the office complex when completed would enhance the workings of the Commission.

Responding to concerns about land litigation being a major challenge the Regional Lands Office is confronted with, the president of the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu, explained that the commission often refuses to involve chiefs when alienating lands to individuals.
