The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has launched an investigation into a cybersecurity breach that has affected approximately 5,700 customers of MTN, one of the country’s leading mobile network operators.
In an official statement released on April 29, 2025, the Ministry confirmed that it is working closely with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the National Communications Authority (NCA), and the Data Protection Commission (DPC) to probe the incident.
The collaboration is to determine the full extent of the breach and implement necessary measures to protect customer data.
“The Ministry is working to establish if there are any breaches on the part of the Mobile Network Operator,” the statement noted.
While specifics of the breach have not been disclosed, authorities emphasized that customer privacy remains a top priority and that affected individuals will be contacted in accordance with Ghana’s Data Protection Laws.
The Ministry has urged the public to remain calm as efforts are underway to resolve the issue. It has also assured citizens that updates will be provided as new information emerges.
