Three university staff unions have officially ended their strike after the government agreed to meet their demands. The unions include the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), the Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG), and the Federation of University Senior Staff Associations of Ghana (FUSSAG).

The strike, which began on May 21, 2025, was in response to a six-month delay in implementing an agreement to improve staff conditions of service.

Union leaders said past and present governments had failed to honour the agreed terms.

In a statement signed by SSA-UoG National Chairman, George Ansong, the unions announced the suspension of the strike after the Ministry of Finance issued the long-awaited letter to implement the agreement.

The letter confirms that the new conditions will take effect from November 1, 2024.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has also approved the immediate payment of entitlements by universities.

“All members are to resume work on Friday, May 23, 2025,” Mr. Ansong said.

He added that the strike was a last resort, taken after all other options had failed.

The unions thanked the Minister of Education and Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai for their role in resolving the matter. They also expressed appreciation to the media and union members for their support during the strike.
