In a high-level engagement with the leadership of the Plastic Manufacturers Association of Ghana, Minister for Finance Dr. Ato Baah Forson has pledged strong support for the local manufacturing sector, outlining a bold vision to protect Ghanaian industries and promote self-reliance.

During the meeting, key concerns raised by the Association included burdensome taxation, challenges with exports, abuse of import exemptions, and the unchecked dumping of low-quality plastic products into the Ghanaian market.

In response, Dr. Ato Forson emphasized the importance of protecting local production.

“Let me be clear: I will champion a policy to ensure products that can be produced locally are not imported. We must protect Ghanaian industries, create jobs, and add value to what we make right here at home,” he stated.

He also assured industry leaders that the government is implementing bold measures to stabilize the economy, reduce inflation, and strengthen the cedi.

According to him, these factors significantly influence port charges and the overall cost of doing business.

He also promised to collaborate closely with the Ghana Revenue Authority to close loopholes at the ports and ensure a fair and efficient system.

“Together, we will build a stronger, self-reliant Ghana,” he concluded.
