Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo arrived at the Supreme Court today, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, for the hearing of an injunction application she filed to halt her suspension and the ongoing impeachment proceedings against her. She was accompanied by her husband, Francis Torkornoo.
The injunction, filed on May 21, seeks to restrain the five-member Committee of Inquiry—established by President Mahama to probe petitions for her removal—from proceeding with its work until the Supreme Court rules on the matter.
Justice Torkornoo is also requesting the removal of Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Adib-Asiedu from the committee, citing potential bias. She argues that Justice Pwamang had previously adjudicated cases involving one of the petitioners, Daniel Ofori, while Justice Adib-Asiedu sat on a related injunction panel.
Additionally, the Chief Justice is challenging the eligibility of the remaining committee members—Daniel Yao Domelovo, Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo, and Prof. James Sefah Dzisah—under constitutional provisions and the Oaths Act, 1972.
Meanwhile, former Trade Minister, K.T. Hammond and a Deputy Attorney-General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai were spotted at the Supreme Court ahead of the hearing.
