The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho would soon be renamed the John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences, in honour of the late Ghanaian President’s pivotal role in the institution’s establishment.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, during the inauguration of the university’s new Governing Council at the Ministry of Education. A Bill to this effect would soon be laid before Parliament.

According to the Minister, the renaming recognizes late President Mills’ instrumental contribution to the founding of UHAS and his unwavering dedication to promoting health and education in Ghana.
Council Chair, Professor Kodzo Gavua, welcomed the announcement and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence and nation-building.

He noted that the renaming is not only a tribute to a visionary leader but also an inspiration for future generations of health professionals.
JEA Mills UHAS, as the institution will now be known, continues to lead in the training of skilled health professionals for Ghana and the international community.
