The Northern Regional Library has announced the immediate closure of its adult section following alarming structural issues caused by a water leakage.
The section, which can accommodate approximately 200 visitors, was torn off during a rainstorm nearly a month ago, exposing the concrete ceiling beneath.
The Northern Regional Librarian, Aaron Kuwornu, in an interview with GBC NEWS in Tamale, stated that the extensive damage has compromised the integrity of the building, raising safety concerns for visitors and staff.
“I dont want to describe it as a death trap, but i cannot risk the lives of visitors, so we have closed it down untill further notice,” he explained.
When GBC NEWS correspondent Murtala Issah arrrived at the library, buckets and other plastic containers were lined up to collect the seeping water.

Staff of the library were also busy relocating some of the books to more secured locations to prevent destruction from water.
The closure has disrupted patrons who rely on the adult section for reading and research needs. Some of them were seen using the children’s section, but complained that, the space and study materials were inadequate.
