The Member of Parliament for Abetifi and the former Minister for Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has pledged to ensure the completion of the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium within four months to provide a standard playing ground for local football teams in the Kwahu enclave.

During a working visit to the stadium site on Monday, the former Minister noted that the project, initially under the Middle Belt Development Authority and reportedly owned by the National Sports Authority, was being revived due to mounting calls by residents for its swift completion.

He explained that the people of Nkawkaw and surrounding areas have for years yearned for a functional sports facility to enable their local teams to play home matches. “That’s why we decided to support them to quickly finish their pitch and dressing rooms so that they can at least begin to host matches here,” he stated.

The pitch, according to Mr Acheampong, meets the technical specifications of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), measuring 105 by 68 metres, identical to that of the Accra Sports Stadium. On completion, the facility will have a 3,000-seater stand to the right of the pitch, with changing rooms currently under construction on the left.

“We originally scheduled the completion of the project in four months, taking advantage of the rams and boreholes already dug. By the beginning of the new football season, we expect the people of Nkawkaw to enjoy their home matches right here,” he assured.

He revealed that the GFA had reviewed the architectural drawings of the facility and submitted comments a few weeks ago, which will be addressed accordingly. “We’re going to work with the National Sports Authority and the GFA to ensure that we comply with all the technical standards and obligations for a smooth implementation of the project,” he added.

The completion of the Nkawkaw Stadium is expected to boost sporting activities in the Eastern Region, providing a modern arena for talent development and community engagement.
