Accra Hearts of Oak has announced its withdrawal from the upcoming EKO International Tournament in Lagos, Nigeria, citing the need to prioritize player rest and recovery. The tournament, initially set for July 6-13, was postponed to July 13-20, a schedule that conflicts with the club’s carefully planned off-season regimen.

The decision came after thorough consultations between the club’s management and technical staff. They concluded that maintaining the players’ physical and mental well-being ahead of the demanding pre-season was paramount. This move underscores the club’s commitment to long-term performance and injury prevention rather than short-term exposure.

Hearts of Oak expressed regret to both the tournament organizers and fans who anticipated the team’s participation. The club assured supporters that this choice was made with the squad’s best interests at heart, aiming to return stronger and more prepared for the upcoming season.

The team is set to commence its official break on Wednesday, July 9, before resuming pre-season training later in the month. The club’s August calendar is already packed, featuring key fixtures such as the GHALCA Top 4 tournament from August 15-19, a Homowo Cup clash against Heart of Lions and the Democracy Cup match versus Great Olympics on August 28.
