Tottenham Hotspur has agreed a £55 million deal to sign Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United, a move that has generated excitement among fans and notable figures alike.
Immediate past Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is a passionate Tottenham supporter, took to social media to congratulate both the club and Kudus on the imminent transfer.
He expressed his joy at seeing a highly rated Ghanaian talent join his favorite Premier League side ahead of the new season.
Dr. Bawumia’s message of support came shortly after the announcement that Kudus would undergo a medical on July 10, 2025, before finalizing a six-year contract with Spurs. “I am excited to see our Ghanaian starboy make this move to my Spurs.
All the best in your medical Mohammed Kudus,” he wrote on his X account, reflecting the pride felt across Ghana as one of their top footballers prepares to compete in the Champions League with Tottenham.
Kudus, 24, joined West Ham from Ajax Amsterdam in 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most creative and dynamic midfielders. Despite a slight dip in statistics last season, his flair and direct style of play have made him a sought-after player.
Tottenham’s pursuit of Kudus was marked by the player’s clear preference for Spurs, which helped the clubs agree on a fee below his release clause, ending a lengthy transfer saga.
The signing is a significant boost for Tottenham as they prepare for a Champions League campaign under manager Thomas Frank.
Kudus is expected to be a central figure in Spurs’ attacking setup, complementing the team’s high-tempo style and ambition to win major trophies.
The club’s chairman, Daniel Levy has emphasized the importance of marquee signings like Kudus to build on recent successes and energize the fanbase.
For Ghana, Kudus’ move to a prestigious club competing at the highest European level is a source of national pride and inspiration for young players.
Dr. Bawumia’s public endorsement highlights the growing recognition of Ghanaian football talent on the global stage. As Kudus embarks on this new chapter, expectations are high for him to shine both for Tottenham and the Ghana national team.
