The Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, says the party is fully prepared and confident of victory in all 19 polling stations in the Ablekuma North Constituency where a rerun of the parliamentary election is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 11, 2025.

“We are hopeful of winning all the 19 polling stations,” he stated.

‎Speaking in an interview on GTV Breakfast Show on Thursday, July 11, 2025 ahead of the rerun, Mr. Dafeamekpor explained that the NDC has always pushed for the rerun because of irregularities that affected the initial results in the 19 polling stations. He said it was through his efforts that the Electoral Commission was brought before Parliament to answer questions on the matter, which eventually led to the decision for the rerun.

‎“We have always been ready. We’ve been demanding action for months. I filed a question in Parliament, and three weeks ago, we brought the Electoral Commission to explain the situation. That’s what led to the rerun being scheduled,” he said.

‎The MP emphasized that the NDC strongly believes it won the original election but was denied victory due to disruptions caused at the collation center.

‎“We were winning, and we were comfortable. But chaos broke out during the collation, and that’s why we are where we are now. Thankfully, tomorrow, the people of Ablekuma North will have the chance to vote again.”

‎Mr. Dafeamekpor also addressed the boycott by the NPP, who has challenged the decision to hold the rerun in 19 polling stations, insisting that only three had issues.

‎“If they agree that even three polling stations had issues, then it means there were problems. We said 37, they said 3, and the Electoral Commission settled on 19. The EC, NDC, and NPP do not have the original results for these 19 stations. So how can anyone object to the rerun?”

‎He questioned the sincerity of the NPP’s protests and petitions to the Electoral Commission if they now refuse to participate in the elections.

‎“Were they protesting just for show? If they believe only three should be rerun, then they can come and participate in just those three. We will be at all 19.”

‎Mr. Dafeamekpor concluded by urging voters in Ablekuma North to come out in their numbers and vote for the NDC to ensure the constituency gets effective representation in Parliament.

‎The rerun follows the dismissal of an interim injunction application filed by the NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akuamoah Owusu Afriyie, which sought to stop the process. With the court’s decision, the Electoral Commission is going ahead with the rerun as planned.
