Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has assured the public that there will be no military presence at polling stations during today’s re-run election in the Ablekuma North Constituency.
In a Facebook post, he emphasized that the Ghana Police Service will be fully in charge of maintaining law and order throughout the election process. This decision, according to him, is aimed at promoting a peaceful, fair, and democratic voting environment.
Dr. Omane Boamah highlighted past incidents of election-related violence, such as the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election in 2019 and the deaths of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 general elections, as reasons to avoid military involvement.
“We must learn from the past and ensure the safety and security of all citizens. The police are well trained to handle electoral duties, and we have full confidence in them to protect voters and maintain peace,” he stated.
He called on voters to come out in peace and exercise their democratic rights as part of the effort to build a better Ghana, saying, “Let’s keep the peace and make our voices heard as John Dramani Mahama resets Ghana and creates more opportunities for all.”
