Drivers and bankers within the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region have been sensitised on the concept and benefits of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) during an engagement held in Koforidua.

The event forms part of activities marking this year’s ADR Week programme in the Eastern Region.

Appeal Court Judge with oversight responsibility for ADR, Her Ladyship Angelina Mensah-Homia, who took participants through the ADR process, encouraged them to adopt ADR in resolving disputes, as it is quicker and more cost-effective compared to traditional litigation.

She explained that the ADR concept aims to educate and sensitise the public and stakeholders on the importance of ADR and how court users can access ADR services for the resolution of cases.

As part of efforts to deepen public engagement, a pre-ADR Week has been incorporated into the programme to engage various stakeholders in the justice delivery system and intensify education on the concept and benefits of ADR.

Her Ladyship, Mensah-Homia, urged stakeholders to withdraw cases from the courts that can be resolved through ADR to help ease the backlog of cases. She revealed that the Adentan Court in Accra alone is handling over 500 backlog cases.
