The Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, is in Accra to pay a courtesy call on President John Dramani Mahama. The visit is to express appreciation for the positive developments witnessed in the North East Region over the past six months, according to the North East Regional Minister, Hon. Ibrahim Tia.
Addressing journalists ahead of the visit to the Jubilee House, the Minister said the meeting would also serve as a follow-up on key promises made by the President during his recent “Thank You” tour of the region.

“The people of Mamprugu have seen progress in several areas, and the Overlord is here to acknowledge that. At the same time, we are here to remind the President of some of the commitments he made to the region, especially those that directly impact the lives of our people,” Hon. Tia noted.
Also addressing the media was the Public Relations Officer of the Mamprugu Youth Association, Abdul Majeed Imusah, who is part of the Overlord’s delegation. He expressed optimism that the Mamprugu area and the wider North East Region would continue to enjoy peace and unity. He further appealed to President Mahama to prioritize youth employment in rural communities to help curb the growing challenge of rural-urban migration.

“We are optimistic that with sustained efforts, the entire North East Region will continue to enjoy harmony. But we also urge the President to make youth employment in rural communities a top priority. This will help curb rural-urban migration, which remains a major challenge for our young people,” Imusah said.
The courtesy call marks a significant step in strengthening the partnership between traditional leadership and government to promote inclusive development in Ghana’s northern regions.

Indeed the mamprugu kingdom is a well structured one I never knew until today when I see even the upper east kings calling the Nayiri their father and representing him as a delegation to meet the president of Ghana 🇬🇭
