A new guide to equip journalists with the necessary knowledge to report effectively on illicit financial flows (IFFs), progressive taxation, resource-based lending, and domestic resource mobilization has been launched in Accra.
Launching the guide, Senior Programme Manager for Media and Good Governance at the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Rosemond Ebi-Adow Aryeetey, said the guide has been designed to empower journalists and strengthen transparency and accountability in Ghana’s media landscape. According to her, the guide will serve as a critical resource for media professionals reporting on complex financial issues that affect national development.
The comprehensive guide was put together by the Media Foundation for West Africa in collaboration with Oxfam.

The guide, developed to enhance financial literacy among media practitioners, is expected to boost transparency and accountability in governance.
Senior Programme Manager for Media and Governance at the Media Foundation for West Africa, Rosemond Ebi-Adzo Aryeetey, said the guide is a timely intervention to help journalists to give accurate information to the public. She said it equips journalists with the necessary tools to investigate and report on complex financial issues that impact national development.
Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Rebecca Ekpe, also highlighted the significance of the guide, noting that it aligns with efforts to promote, empower, and protect media practitioners and civic voices in West Africa.
“This media guide is a valuable resource for journalists, providing insights, tools, and best practices for investigating and reporting on these complex issues. GJA believes that, by empowering the media to shed light on illicit financial flows and tax justice, we can foster a more informed public discourse, promote accountability, and drive meaningful change. I commend the initiative behind this guide and urge media practitioners to utilize it to uncover the truth, expose wrongdoing, and give voice to the voiceless. Together, we can contribute to a more transparent, equitable, and prosperous. She stated”.
The event brought together key players in the media, civil society, and government officials. Discussions centered on how journalists can contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s economic progress through well-informed, responsible, and impactful reporting.
