The Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, has renewed calls for urgent reconstruction of the deplorable roads leading to Pantang Hospital, describing their condition as a major setback to healthcare delivery in the area.
During a donation exercise at the hospital, where he presented 50 streetlights to improve security and support 24-hour operations, the Member of Parliament lamented the poor state of access roads and the risks they pose to patients and health workers.

“It is quite unfortunate that people seeking urgent healthcare must struggle on such terrible roads before reaching this hospital. Pantang Hospital serves not only Madina but adjoining communities as far as Abokobi, Adenta, and Ayi Mensah. The road network must be fixed as a matter of urgency,” he stressed.
The MP said the Ministry of Roads and Highways has assured him that several critical road projects within Madina have been awarded on contract, including those linking Pantang Hospital.
“I am confident that sooner than later, we will see contractors on site. The Ministry has given us assurance, and I believe by the end of this year, most of the key roads in Madina, including those around Pantang, will receive a facelift,” he said.
He further emphasized that improved road infrastructure would complement ongoing efforts to expand healthcare services in Madina, adding that it was unfair for patients and ambulances to battle bad roads on their way to the hospital.

Medical Director
Receiving the items, the Acting Medical Director of Pantang Hospital, Dr. Yennusom Maalug, welcomed the intervention and echoed the MP’s concerns.

“Our infrastructure is 50 years old, and the roads leading here only worsen the challenges we face. We urgently need government’s intervention not only in roads but also in redeveloping Pantang into a modern mental health facility,” he said.
Pantang Hospital is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, with staff and management using the milestone to highlight both the hospital’s achievements and its infrastructural needs.
