The Ghana Football Association has expressed confidence in Thomas Partey’s mental and physical preparedness to play a crucial role in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, despite ongoing off-field legal issues. The 32-year-old Villarreal player faces a pending sexual assault court case in London just days before Ghana’s pivotal match against Chad.
Communication’s Director of the Ghana Football Association Henry Asante Twum emphasized Partey’s readiness and importance to the squad.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Asante Twum reassured fans and critics alike about Partey’s condition.
“He is in the right frame of mind. He is in top shape and so we think that, being a senior player and with his experience, and what he brings to the table, we will need him in these two matches”; Asante Twum said.
Partey is well aware of his September 2 court appearance but remains committed to representing the Black Stars in their decisive fixtures.
Coach Otto Addo included Partey in the 24-man squad announced for Ghana’s upcoming qualifiers against Chad and Mali. The first match on September 4 will take place in N’Djamena, followed by a home game against Mali on September 8 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana currently leads Group I after six rounds and aims to maintain their top spot to secure World Cup qualification.
Partey recently joined Villarreal on a two-year contract and has already featured for the Spanish La Liga side, coming off the bench in a dominant 5-0 win over Girona. His return to top-flight club football appears to have boosted his fitness and form ahead of key international fixtures.
