Sudan’s football team, led by coach Kwesi Appiah, is set to battle Senegal in the third-place playoff of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Friday, August 29, at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
Following their semifinal loss to Madagascar, Appiah vowed that his squad will give their all to secure the bronze medal and lift the spirits of the Sudanese people. He acknowledged the difficult times facing Sudan and emphasized the deep significance of this match.
“We want to bring smiles to the Sudanese, especially at a time when our country is going through such hardship,” he said.
The coach made clear that the team is focused on winning the medal as a way to inspire joy and pride in their nation. The Ghanaian tactician also highlighted the progress the team has made throughout the tournament.
“We are more united now than we were in the first game. We have learned a lot throughout the tournament and believe we can put on a great show,” Appiah explained.
This growing cohesion and experience are seen as key factors in their approach to the upcoming match. The third-place playoff between the Falcons of Jediane and Senegal’s Lions of Teranga promises to be a fiercely contested battle, with both teams eager to claim a podium finish.
Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 GMT, as Sudan aims to cap their CHAN campaign with a victorious finish. Coach Appiah’s determination to bring hope to Sudan through football underscores the power of sport to unite and uplift, even in challenging circumstances.
Today’s match will be a crucial moment for the team to etch their names in CHAN history and deliver a meaningful result to their supporters.
