Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has held talks with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, as both countries move to deepen bilateral relations in key areas of cooperation.
The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, focused on preparations for an upcoming state visit, the implementation of China’s Zero-Tariff Policy announced during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and strategies to accelerate economic recovery.
Okudzeto Ablakwa and Ambassador Defa emphasised the importance of strengthening the framework of South-South cooperation as a pathway to resilience and inclusive growth. Both sides highlighted that Ghana and China share a commitment to expanding trade, boosting investment, and working together on strategic development projects that align with Ghana’s Reset Agenda.
The Foreign Minister underscored Ghana’s readiness to leverage China’s Zero-Tariff Policy to expand exports and improve market access for Ghanaian goods, particularly in agriculture and manufacturing. Ambassador Defa reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s recovery efforts and building sustainable partnerships in infrastructure, industry, and technology.
The talks signal renewed momentum in Ghana-China relations, which continue to play a vital role in shaping Ghana’s economic transformation and its broader engagement within the global South.
