The Ga South Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held a town hall meeting at Hobor in the Domeabra Obom constituency to educate residents on the importance of upholding the rule of law and tackling corruption.

The event, held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, was led by the Municipal Director, Mr George Obeng Osei, and his staff. It brought together participants including dressmakers, tailors, commercial motorbike riders (okada riders), and traders between the ages of 18 and 35.

Key presentations were delivered by representatives from the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector Seth Awuku, Chief Inspector Madam Hawa, and Inspector Hilda Asante, all from the Danchira Police Station, as well as Ms Victoria Peprah, an investigator from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

Speakers stressed the importance of citizens being law-abiding and respecting due process whenever they fall foul of the law. They also outlined common forms of corruption, including nepotism, cronyism, fraud, bribery, extortion, and conflict of interest, using practical examples for clarity.

Participants were encouraged to support crime prevention efforts by reporting suspicious activities to the police and were assured of protection under the Whistleblower Act, which guarantees confidentiality and safety for informants.

The forum also highlighted that corruption is not limited to government officials but cuts across various aspects of society. Citizens were urged to reflect on their own actions, avoid engaging in or tolerating corrupt acts, and contribute to building a fairer society.

Feedback from participants described the meeting as highly enlightening and impactful, equipping the youth with knowledge to become active partners in the fight against corruption.
