The Minister of labour, jobs  and employment , Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has urged the youth to cultivate skills that make them competitive globally, tapping into opportunities in digital and green economies. He emphasized that for young Ghanaians to thrive, they have to  adapt to new job sectors and grab the chances out there.

He made this call at the Ghana Career and  Migration Fair 2025, held at the Accra International Conference Center , where he spoke about the importance of digital literacy, entrepreneurship, and fair recruitment practices for Ghana’s youth looking to make it big internationally.

Dr. Pelpuo stressed that trends like digital transformation and automation are reshaping labour markets, so young people need to be equipped with globally relevant skills.

According to him, avenues like freelancing, remote work, and tech-driven entrepreneurship are viable routes for Ghanaian youth to tap into global job markets. He pointed out that Ghana’s National Employment Policy, National Labour Migration Policy, and National Green Job Strategy provide a strong foundation for initiatives like the career fair.

Dr. Pelpuo expressed concern about Ghana’s education system, saying he feels strongly that there’s a need for improvement giving young people skills not just to work, but to be entrepreneurs themselves. He challenged the youth to see themselves as agents of change, not just seekers of Jobs. “The skills we earn today will define the progress of Ghana in the future because you are Ghana in the near future,” he stated.

He urged young Ghanaians to cultivate skills for the digital and green economies, highlighting that this could lead Ghana’s youth to not only thrive globally but lead Africa into a more sustainable and prosperous future. The Ghana Career Migration Fair 2025, he said, is a beacon of hope where aspirations meet possibilities.
