Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has cautioned politicians and the public against using the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) as a tool for propaganda.

Speaking in an interview on GTV’s Current Agenda show on Saturday, September 20, 2025, Mr. Fuseini stressed that the galamsey menace is a national problem that affects every Ghanaian, regardless of political party. According to him, both the NDC and NPP have had their members accused of engaging in illegal mining, and therefore, no party should use it to score political points.

The former lawmaker reminded Ghanaians that the devastation caused by galamsey—such as polluted water bodies, destroyed farmlands, and rising cases of kidney diseases—affects all citizens, not just those in mining communities. He therefore urged chiefs, government, and communities to work together to stop the illegal practice.

He further backed calls for accountability, noting that a report on illegal mining activities, which implicated some politicians, is now with the Attorney-General for possible prosecution. He insisted that anyone found guilty of destroying the environment should face justice, no matter their political affiliation.

Mr. Fuseini, who was part of the team of ministers that initiated Ghana’s fight against galamsey, emphasized that the focus should be on finding lasting solutions, not trading accusations.
