Ghana and Norway have signed a Political Consultations Agreement to deepen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across multiple sectors. The signing took place on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The agreement was endorsed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Norway’s Minister for International Development, Åsmund Grøver Aukrust.

Discussions between the two countries focused on strengthening collaboration in oil and gas, trade facilitation, agribusiness, education, artificial intelligence, maritime security, the blue economy, and intelligence sharing.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional security challenges in the Sahel and West Africa.

Ghana stressed the need to revitalize the Accra Initiative and appealed for greater international support, not only in financial contributions but also through technical expertise, equipment, and enhanced multilateral engagement. Norway reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana, including research and training through the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

Both countries pledge to demonstrate joint leadership as Co-Chairs of the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.

This new agreement is expected to serve as a strong foundation for a deeper, more strategic partnership between Ghana and Norway, built on shared values and a common vision for peace, prosperity, and sustainability.
