Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has opened up about his memorable encounter with 2025 Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele. The celebrated musician met the French football star during a trip to New York in 2022, thanks to his footballer friend Memphis Depay.
At the time, Sarkodie had no idea who Dembele was, but he quickly learned about the player as Depay facilitated the introduction.
“I really did not know about Dembele. It was my team who prompted me about him and I had to even search about him”; Sarkodie said.
Sarkodie described Dembele as humble and down-to-earth when reflecting on their meeting. After Dembele’s recent recognition as the best player in the world.
“He is a cool guy and very down to earth. I even thought he was just a friend to Memphis and they were just moving together. Apparently, he was a superstar,” Sarkodie mentioned.
He further congratulated the footballer for his outstanding achievement. The rapper said he valued the opportunity to connect with a top sports personality in such an informal setting.
The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony took place on Monday, September 22, 2025 in Paris, where Ousmane Dembele was named Player of the Year.
This award capped off a remarkable season for Dembele, who played a crucial role in Paris Saint-Germain’s treble-winning campaign, cementing his status among football’s elite.
Meanwhile, Sarkodie is currently in Kumasi preparing for his highly anticipated Rapperholic Homecoming concert.
The event is scheduled for September 27, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and is expected to draw huge crowds eager to see one of Ghana’s biggest music stars perform live.
