Minister for Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, held a productive meeting with the leadership of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union (GNPTDU) as part of the Ministry’s ongoing stakeholder engagements aimed at strengthening operations within the country’s energy sector.

The discussions focused on critical issues affecting petroleum tanker drivers, including their general welfare, the need for a fair and structured salary regime, and the elimination of unlawful surcharges that impact their livelihoods.

Minister Jinapor emphasized that these concerns are central to ensuring stability and efficiency in Ghana’s petroleum distribution chain.

“Tanker drivers play a vital role in maintaining the national petroleum supply and distribution system. Their dedication ensures the steady and reliable delivery of fuel across the country, which is essential for our economic and social stability”; he said.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing their challenges through a collaborative and transparent approach involving all relevant agencies.

The Ministry of Energy, in partnership with the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and other key stakeholders, is set to develop a comprehensive framework to tackle the concerns raised by the union.

According to the Minister, this framework will aim to safeguard the welfare of tanker drivers, enhance operational efficiency, and promote long-term industrial harmony within the petroleum transport sector.

The meeting forms part of a broader initiative by the Energy Ministry to deepen stakeholder engagement, build consensus, and strengthen coordination across Ghana’s energy value chain.
