Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori is determined to earn his way back into the Black Stars squad as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches.

The 31-year-old shot-stopper has been out of the national team since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where a costly error in the 2-2 draw against Mozambique contributed to Ghana’s early exit from the tournament.

Since that disappointment, Ofori has not received any call-ups and has been focusing on his club career. In September 2024, he signed as a free agent with AmaZulu FC in South Africa where he is working hard to rebuild his confidence and form.

The goalkeeper has emphasized that his priority is to deliver strong performances for his club and let those efforts speak for themselves.

In an interview with iDiski Times, Ofori revealed he has not been in recent contact with Black Stars coach Otto Addo but recalled the coach used to keep in touch regularly.

“He’s a good man who checks up on his players,” Ofori said, highlighting the positive relationship despite his current absence from the squad.

The former first-choice goalkeeper acknowledged the challenge ahead but remains focused and motivated.

“I understand what is required. Right now, I’m focused on my club. That’s what you need to do if you want to be there [at the World Cup],” he stated, showing his clear mindset on regaining national team inclusion.

Ofori, who made his international debut in 2015 and has amassed 33 caps for Ghana, hopes his hard work at AmaZulu FC will convince the coaching staff to welcome him back for what could be a late-career World Cup appearance.
