Two Immigration Officers killed in ambush attack in Upper East Region

Two Immigration Officers were attacked and shot at while returning from duty on a motorbike in Nangani, Tempani District, Upper East Region. The ambush took place on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at around 8:30 pm, when the assailants opened fire on the unsuspecting officers.

The officers, Assistant Immigration Control Officer (AICO I) Philip Lartey and AICO I Cosmos Dakurah, sustained gunshot wounds. They were initially treated at the Basonde Clinic in Tempani before being transferred to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for further care.

Tragically, AICO I Cosmos Dakurah succumbed to his injuries and passed away in the early hours of November 3, 2025. The loss has deeply affected the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and the wider security community.

The Ghana Immigration Service, together with the Ghana Police Service, has launched an active investigation into the incident. 

The Comptroller-General of Immigration and the Inspector General of Police have deployed a team to the Upper East Region to support the ongoing probe and support officers in the area during this difficult time.

GIS management expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and friends of the late officers. 

They condemned the violence against their personnel and pledged to ensure the safety of all officers while working with authorities to bring those responsible to justice.
