The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the remand of three individuals linked to a viral video depicting a woman being physically assaulted, an incident that has sparked widespread public outrage.
In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Police said the Magistrate Court at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has remanded the key suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, also known as Nii Adjei, together with two accomplices, into custody.
According to the Police, Lamptey, who was captured in the viral video allegedly assaulting a woman believed to be his wife, has been charged with Physical Assault, contrary to Sections 1(b)(i) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732).
The two others, Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey, are facing charges of Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, specifically “threat of harm,” under Sections 23(1) and 74 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). Their charges stem from an attempt to attack a female tenant suspected of recording and circulating the viral footage.
All three suspects are to remain in police custody and are expected to reappear before the court on 3rd December 2025.
Meanwhile, the Police are appealing to the victim, whose whereabouts remain unknown, or anyone with credible information about her safety to report to the nearest police station. They assured the public that all information shared will be handled with strict confidentiality.
The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer at the CID.
