The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, on Wednesday, November 19, donated essential items to The Ark Foundation Ghana during a working visit. The items were supplied under the MoGCSP–UNFPA Ghana programme to support the Foundation’s shelter and protection services.

After assessing the facility’s needs, the Minister also added extra items from her personal support. In addition, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey donated GHC 10,000 to help the Foundation with its operational costs and the welfare of survivors.

The Ark Foundation is one of the leading institutions in Ghana providing shelter, counselling, legal aid, and psychosocial support for abused women and vulnerable children. The Minister’s visit forms part of her efforts to strengthen collaboration with frontline organisations that play a key role in the national protection system.

Accompanied by officials from the Ministry, the Minister noted that the visit is in line with the Ministry’s work plan and shows a renewed commitment to supporting groups that deliver critical services to survivors of abuse.

She also expressed her gratitude to The Ark Foundation for its long-term work in Ghana’s social protection sector. She recalled that The Ark Foundation played an important role in her early years in gender advocacy and social work, making the visit both official and “deeply personal.”

The Executive Director of The Ark Foundation, Dr. Angela Dwamena Aboagye, welcomed the Minister and her team. She outlined the Foundation’s continuous efforts in offering refuge, crisis support, and rehabilitation for women and children fleeing domestic and gender-based violence. She also noted that despite the vital services they provide, the Foundation still faces major financial and operational challenges.

Management of The Ark Foundation thanked the Minister and the Ministry, calling the support timely and impactful.
